Description
For sale isa really nice and early lidded serving dish made by Meissen in about 1740. The piece doesn't have a number on it yet so the piece was probably made just a touch before 1740. One does not find these lidded dishes often at all and I have a pair of them and will list them separately on the site. The lid and main body each have a basket weave design in relief to the paste along the rim, a gold trim to the edge and lots of superbly hand painted flowers all around. The lid and main body have two larger flower arrangements on them as well as two smaller arrangements and some single scattered flowers as well plus the occasional leaf to hide a flaw. Gold trim to the edge of the lid. The flowers are superb and in the early Deutsche Blumen style still influenced by the earlier Woodcut style flowers a bit. The lid has a really nice floral finial to it with its stem and leaves. The set is in superb condition with two petals of the finial having been worked on. Small manufacturing flaw to the lid edge that does not distract. It displays perfectly! A little wear to the gilding. The dish with its lid in place is about 5.5 inches tall, 7.5 inches wide and 6.5 inches deep. The main body is marked with the under glaze blue crossed swords mark as shown.
