    Rare Antique Meissen Frederick Augustus II Portrait Cup Saucer Circa 1860

    【Date】Middle of 19th century, circa 1860
    【Size】The cup: 10.3 cm high without handle/10 cm diameter. The saucer: 17.5 cm diameter.
    【Condition report】Both are in excellent condition. No cracks/hairlines/restorations/chips. First Choice without incised mark. They look like new, no traces of use. There are some of out of factory imperfection on the inside of the cup(as shown in 8th pic), a needle size white spot on the saucer(11th pic) and three needle size dents on the handle(10th pic)
    A Meissen porcelain cup with portraits of Friedrich August II of Saxony and Marie Caroline of Austria. Cylindrical cup on paw feet with scroll handles and original saucer. Decorated in the center with the crowned coat of arms of Saxony in a laurel wreath, flanked on either side by bas-relief portraits of the royal couple Frederick Augustus II and first wife Marie Caroline in oval surrounds. The portrait and the coat of arms are painted in gold and finished in matte. The base of the cup is abundantly decorated with golden Rocaille ornaments. A gorgeous cup and saucer set!
    Frederick Augustus II (1797-1854 ) was King of Saxony (1836 - 1854)and a member of the House of Wettin. His first wife, Archduchess Marie Caroline of Austria (1819- 1832).
